Capture, torture, Kill, throw | Dadang Christanto

Originally shown in Malaysia, the works in Christanto’s Ciduk, Siska, Bunuh, Buang series, which is translated to English as “capture, torture, kill, throw” monumental imagined portraits of the 1965 victims. Throughout his search to discover the truth of what happened to his father, Christanto heard of a news photographer who has been able to access photographs of those tortured between 1965-66 in Tegal. Hoping to contact the photographer in search for an image of his captured father, Christanto discovered that the photographer had passed away, and the photographs unknown. In his continued search for evidence, this body of work by Christanto materialized, as a document of a history which has been erased.
